Cannabis Glossary

  • Badder: A creamy, butter-like concentrate also known as batter. Very similar to budder but with a slightly different consistency.
  • BHO: Short for butane hash oil, also called honey oil. A cannabis concentrate made using butane, heat, and pressure.
  • Blunt: A cigar that has been emptied and filled with cannabis. Rolled with a tobacco leaf or a blunt wrap instead of paper.
  • Bong: A water pipe used for smoking cannabis and other herbs. Uses water filtration to provide cooler, smoother, and cleaner smoke.
  • Bubbler: A small water pipe similar to a bong but usually handheld.
  • Bud: A synonym for cannabis flower (flower buds).
  • Budder: Cannabis concentrate that is creamy in consistency, like butter. A wax extract that is moister than crumble.
  • Cannabinoids: Compounds found in cannabis responsible for most of its psychoactive, mind-altering, and therapeutic effects. Over 100 different cannabinoids exist in cannabis, with THC and CBD being the most prominent.
  • Cannabis: A synonym for marijuana.
  • Capsule: A pill containing cannabis extract. Refers to the encapsulation of cannabis in a gelatin capsule.
  • CBD (Cannabidiol): The second-most prominent cannabinoid in cannabis. Known for its relaxing effects and not mind-altering.
  • CBG (Cannabigerol): A non-intoxicating cannabinoid believed to have therapeutic potential.
  • CBN (Cannabinol): A non-intoxicating cannabinoid.
  • CO2 Oil: A concentrated cannabis oil made using a CO2 extraction process.
  • Concentrates: Cannabis extracts containing large amounts of cannabinoids and terpenes. Known for strong potency and flavor.
  • Dab / Dabbing: A method of consuming cannabis concentrates using a dab rig.
  • Dispensary: A retail distributor of cannabis and cannabis products.
  • Edibles: Cannabis-infused food, candy, and capsules made with cannabis extract or decarboxylated flower.
  • Endocannabinoid System: A physiological system of receptors and neurotransmitters that allows cannabinoids to produce their effects.
  • Entourage Effect: A proposed phenomenon where cannabis compounds work together to enhance overall effects.
  • Flower: A synonym for cannabis buds.
  • Hash / Hash Oil: Hash is a solventless cannabis concentrate; hash oil is a concentrated oil used for dabbing, vaping, or smoking.
  • Hemp: A variety of cannabis sativa low in THC and high in CBD, often used for industrial purposes.
  • Hybrid: A cannabis strain combining both sativa and indica genetics.
  • Indica: A strain known for relaxing, body-focused effects.
  • Kief: Concentrated trichome crystals collected from cannabis buds.
  • Kush: A cannabis indica variety originating from the Hindu Kush mountains.
  • Landrace: A cannabis strain with pure, unaltered genetics.
  • Live Resin: A flavorful concentrate made from flash-frozen cannabis plants.
  • Marijuana: Another term for cannabis.
  • OG: Short for “original,” popularized by OG Kush.
  • Pre-roll: A ready-to-use cannabis joint.
  • Resin: See live resin.
  • Rosin: A concentrate made using heat and pressure without solvents.
  • RSO: Rick Simpson Oil, a potent medicinal cannabis extract.
  • Sativa: A strain known for uplifting and energetic effects.
  • Shatter: A brittle cannabis concentrate that breaks into pieces.
  • Strain: A specific variety of cannabis with unique genetics.
  • Sugar: A concentrate with a texture similar to wet sugar.
  • Syringe: A device used to dispense cannabis oil (not for injection).
  • Terpene: Aromatic compounds responsible for cannabis flavor and smell.
  • THC: The primary psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis.
  • Tincture: A liquid cannabis extract taken sublingually or added to food.
  • Topical: Cannabis products applied directly to the skin.
  • Trichome: Tiny crystalline structures that contain cannabinoids and terpenes.
  • Vape Cartridge: A cartridge filled with cannabis oil used with a vape pen.
  • Vaporizer: A device used to heat cannabis without combustion.
  • Wax: A cannabis concentrate with a wax-like consistency.
